Our brand

Our FAQ Guide shares why we have rebranded to First Sentier Investors and the implications this has for our products.

What has happened to CFSGAM?

On 2 August 2019 Colonial First State Global Asset Management (CFSGAM) known as First State Investments (FSI) outside of Australia, was acquired by Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation (MUTB), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. (MUFG). Since the sale, we have rebranded to First Sentier Investors.

Does CBA still own parts of First Sentier Investors?

First Sentier Investors is no longer owned by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

How is First Sentier Investors governed?

First Sentier Investors will operate as a standalone global investment management business. See our Management Team and Board of Directors

Is there an ongoing relationship with CBA?

CFSIL, which is wholly-owned by the CBA Group, will continue to be the responsible entity for some of the products managed by First Sentier Investors.

The CBA Group is also a client of First Sentier Investors as we manage funds on CBA-owned platforms. This is the same relationship we have with other platforms that offer our investment options.

Why has the brand changed?

The brand name has changed following the change of ownership.

We are also taking this opportunity to adopt a global brand name. Over the next 18 months, the name First Sentier Investors will be adopted in all markets in which we operate. The Realindex, FSSA Investment Managers and Stewart Investors brands will be maintained.

What is the meaning behind the new brand?

The name First Sentier Investors was chosen as it reflects our brand purpose. The word “First” allows us to keep a reference to our strong and successful heritage. The word “Sentier” means path. We chose a brand name that reflected our long-term commitment to following our own path; to invest responsibly over the long term for the benefit of our clients and the communities in which we invest.

Which funds are managed by the new brand?

Will it change the way you manage funds?

The name change will have no effect on the way First Sentier Investors manages funds.

Will the fund names change to align with the new brand?

Fund names will change over time. Funds will be transitioned to align with the new brand as part of scheduled regulatory updates. We expect all fund and brand names to be aligned by early 2021.

Why has the company brand changed but the fund names haven’t?

The name change has occurred to reflect our new ownership under MUFG. The fund names and brand name will change during scheduled regulatory updates.

How do I find First Sentier Investors Funds?

First Sentier Investors funds will be available under their current fund names, until we notify advisers, inermediaries and licensees of further updates.

Retail investors will be notified when the name changes by their financial advisers.

Will First Sentier Investors funds be available on the same platforms?

Existing funds will continue to be available on all existing channels and platforms.

Is there anything financial advisers need to do?

When fund names change, you and your licensee will be notified of the new names and any other changes.
